New Things, New Year!!!

There are lots of new things coming to Lopez Photography for the New Year:
  • New website (currently underconstruction)

  • Jesse will be shooting with me from now on and will also run the new lighting equipment that we are super excited about testing out!

  • We will be intergrating graphic design and photography to come up with some very unique images.

  • Our concentration will be on senior portraits, promotional photos for bands and individuals, and tons of experimental photography.

We like to do things a bit differently around here so stay tuned for some new stuff coming very, very soon!

Note: We are looking for a new blogsite as this one does not like to post all of our images and adds a lot of noise to them. Please keep that in mind while viewing. Thanks!

Enjoy these pics from Thanksgiving of my cousin Julie's beautiful twin girls....

Experimenting...

I should be in bed right now, but instead I'm online blogging these experimental pics. Jesse just informed me that it is midnight...so yeah, I need to go to bed with a quickness. I have a feeling the light from the computer room is frustrating for him when he's trying to sleep, not to mention my lighting speed typing sounds. Poor Jesse. How does he do it? It's true love I tell you. Anyway, back to the subject at hand: I affectionately call these my beloved "blurred" pictures. I like 'em. Maybe you will, too.

Zoe and Sidney

I will blog these properly very soon....but for now...here are Sidney and Zoe.

Christmas Contest!!! Help!!!!!!

Here are a couple of submissions for a christmas card contest we are entering. The blog makes these look pixelated, but they aren't. You can always click on the image to view it better. Anyhoo, more images to follow and more information on how you can help us become big winners!

For Fun

I am taking a break from studying Math to post this silly thing that Jesse sent me at work the other day. I hope everyone is doing well. We are currently working on some designs for a contest coming up this November so keep looking for those! Love to all!

Ladies and Gentlemen: Billy Page

This session was really fun. Who doesn't have fun with Billy and Laura Page? We laughed, we sweated on a hot fall day, we cringed at items on the ground, and yet through it all we produced some great images for Billy's new c.d. He is an annointed and talented musician. I'm blessed to have these guys as friends. Please check out Billy's myspace at: http://www.myspace.com/billypagemusic

Zoo Pics

No time to blog these properly. Just posting pics for now. Enjoy!

I affectionately call this photograph "dinosaur". This is a Komodo Dragon. Handsome, isn't he?

Temporarily Gone

Where have we been? Why have we not updated this thing? Well, for now I (Stephanie) am taking a full load of classes and working full time while Jesse is busy with varying projects. Hopefully we will have some new stuff up soon. We have been working on an online comic book to submit to DC Comics later this fall for a chance to see our book in print, film, television, etc. Anyway, please be thinking of us and praying for us in that we have a lot on our plates, but are still trying to make time for a little creativity here and there. Lots of love to everyone who visits the page, and more love to those who leave us short comments. Please, please say hi when you stop by. We'll post some new stuff soon. Until then...be blessed!

Becca, Izza, and Tina

These photos were taken at my house on slumber party night. (Note: no one is too old for a slumber party) Anyway, these were done quickly as an experiment. I think they came out well considering the horrible lighting that was available. Big smiles and lots of love go a long way.
I maintain that Tina should purchase one of these hats! I let her borrow mine for this shoot. She was actually at her deer lease before she came to my house, but you would never know had I not told you. Tina, you are so vogue! Strike a pose...

I love, love , love this pic! My sister, Becca, is so pretty!

And Tina finishes off this batch. Thanks so much ladies! This was a blast! I love you guys! I've used a lot of exclamation points in this entry.

Artwork and What-Not

Ok, first of all, I saw that my other blogger friends were posting their text above pics and stuff instead of below and so I am being unoriginal and copying them. This is a pic of a comic book character created by Josh Howard. His book is called Dead@17. I like the book , but do not recommend it for all audiences. This is my version of one of his characters. I did this in December of '06 and had no super cool blog to post it on...until now, of course.

This pic is of a compilation c.d. cover that Jesse created for me. I've just always really liked this cover art. We call her "that 70's chick" and she will be on some stuff in our upcoming shop.

Hailey Bo Bailey

This is my sister Hailey and we had a blast taking these pics. We listened to very loud music, and got on Jesse's nerves, but hey...it was worth it. I have been wanting to try out some of my new ideas and I'm glad I was able to get in this shoot with Hailey. There are tons of good ones, you can go here and check them out! Special thanks to Jesse for holding one of the lights, Max for being a dweeb, Mattie for being a freak and to Hailey for being so good at being...well...Hailey.

He Made a Funny

You may be asking yourself...What the heck is this about? That's the beauty of it. It doesn't have to be about anything....let it just be. Ok, if it has to be about something then here goes: It is a critter that talks and is stealing someone's corn just to tell someone that someone else is sorry for something sorry that they did. It's funny. This will be one of our greetings cards in our online store that is coming soon. Keep watching for it!

Isn't She Lovely?

Meet Nicole. I loved every second of this shoot. There is so much to talk about with this session, but I'll have to save that for another time. I will say this - she is incredibly beautiful inside and out and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to take these photographs. Thank you, Nicole! You look amazing!

Why Blog?

Why not? I started off with my personal blog after our computer crashed and I lost my journal for 2005-2006. I was very upset as I've always found journaling to be a fantastic source for creativity. Jesse suggested that I blog online and use it as my journal. Good advice. Later, I asked him what he thought about blogging online about our artwork, and continuing that blog to document our small business venture? We both agreed that it would be a fun idea and that it may even benefit others who were thinking of starting their own business. So, welcome to our brainchild - Somos Photography and Design. So we combined a bit of Spanish with our favorite mediums which equals out to literally mean - We Are Photography and Design. We are currently tweaking this page and working on a website to include a shop offering all sorts of cool things. We are very excited about this, but at the same time moving slowly to allow the project some breathing room. This is and will be an adventure for us. Stay tuned for much more that is soon to come including our new and improved logo which we hope to have up very soon and lots more...

Blessings,
Steph

For Fun

Sometimes Jesse sends me these cute pictures that he does during his free time. I think they are adorable. This is the latest one that I have on my desktop at work. These dogs are so cute! They don't belong to us, but I can't say that I wouldn't beg him for one of them if given the opportunity. I figured that I will just start posting all kinds of art work that we do, not just for Somos Photography and Design - but for all sorts of different things. I hope that you enjoy these as much as we do.

kirk

This is Kirk Baxley at a show at El Chico. Jesse and I call this photo "Ya" (to be said in Swedish accent). Anyhoo...the show was a blast and I took several snap shots, but this one is my favorite of the bunch. I played with it in photoshop to give it a sort of comic book feel. I like the outcome.

Brian

Oh the fun of not yet having an actual indoor studio. Brian asked me if I could sort of recreate a picture that he really liked of Gregory Peck. I said, sure. Jesse held together my make shift lighting and who knew how handy my discount lamp from Wally World would turn out to be. Anyway, we of course are loving the retro feel of the first photograph, and I also like the cleaner version on bottom, which is truer to the actual photo we wanted to recreate. Overall, this was a fun and successful project. Special thanks to Brian for being patient with us. Oh, and thanks to my grandmother who saw this shot and asked if Brian was in the entertainment industry. Her comment made all of us smile.

Designer Walls

We decided early on when we moved into our new place that we wanted to design all the artwork that would go on our walls. This is a pixellated version of what Jesse calls the "Retro Steph" Pretty cool. I loved it, but it's hard not to like something your hubby draws of you, especially when you have such hip orange hair and could never pull it off in real life.

He Taught Me, Blame Him

If my art work is bad, you'll have to blame Jesse. He taught me as many basics about drawing as possible. I am not a good student. I get antsy and impatient - so it is a miracle that I am no longer drawing stick figures. I'm no Picasso, but here are some things I've done since marrying my awesome hubby. Please stay tuned as we are trying to upload some of Jesse's graphic design and/or illustrations, and some things that we've collaborated on. In the meantime, here is my work...

Stuff We Created: Part One

"Jess in West". 2006. Photograph by Stephanie Lopez. This photograph was taken in Marfa, Tx., home of some of the most bizarre folk we've ever met. It is also home of some amazing artists. This trip was one of our favorites! If you decide to visit Marfa, be sure to stop by all of the art galleries. You will be amazed at what this little town has to offer.

"Lucia". 2004. This one is an oldie, but a goodie. Designed by Jesse Lopez. Lucia is a potential comic book character for an on-going project that we never have to time to work on. Yep, she's a bad girl. You can tell just by looking at her.
